I love the feeling of a fresh start, and the new year is no exception! After the busy holiday season, it feels good to sit down and reflect on the past year and think about my goals for the new one. Of course, with three active boys this reflective practice can be a challenge to actually carry out . . . Enter my wonderful parents, who for the last several years have offered to watch the boys for a few nights at the end of December while my husband and I get away. To this busy couple that means the world! I mean, I really do think about it during the year at hectic intervals and sigh inwardly at the memory of being fancy-free and able to enjoy uninterrupted conversation, book-reading sessions, and quiet spaces during the day. Maybe even a nap! Or a chance to go to a quiet dinner and a movie (with no babysitter involved)! It is revolutionary for my spirit and a treat for our relationship. And I love that it is at the end of the year, so we can talk about how the year went and what we would like to accomplish in the coming one. I love to make lists. There is something so satisfying and inspiring about organizing all of my thoughts on paper. What can seem jumbled and overwhelming becomes clean and crisp and clear when it is on paper. So I put together a few lists this week: A list with personal, spiritual, and relational goals. A list which has goals for this blog and NoMoreCrohns.com. And a list for projects we want to accomplish on our house this year. (We were able to buy our house in 2015 and every surface needs work, it seems!) This year our family got a gym membership, and I'm so looking forward to swimming or walking the track as a family, maybe introduce the boys to the rock wall (one of them IS literally climbing the door jams, after all . . .), and the opportunity to give our family the opportunity to be a little more active and fit with a variety of activities. One of the things that I am really thrilled about 2016 is that my Mom and I are publishing a cook book! Really, it is mostly my Mom's project. She has been working on it for a long time, gathering her best recipes, hosting taste-testing gatherings, and formatting the cookbook. It is going to be a beautiful, hard-copy version that can be bought through Amazon. After years of publishing digital downloadable magazines, booklets, and cookbooks, we are branching out and are so happy to share new recipes in a new form! We have gotten a lot of questions over the years about whether we offer hard-copy versions of our publications, and now are so happy to be meeting a need that we have wanted to fill for a long time. All of the recipes are SCD-compliant; free of gluten, grains, lactose, and refined sugars. . . the recipes are new, flavorful, taste-tested, and ready to pull off of your shelf and enjoy. Here's a picture of one of the delicious recipes in the cookbook. This Fauxtato Salad was a-mazing. Like a delicious potato salad, but BETTER . . . because it helps us stay healthy! My mouth is watering . . . Needless to say, we are excited! A dream is coming true. I'll be blogging more about the cookbook in the coming weeks. Stay tuned . . . !
