This helps us continue to inform you about valuable tools for your SCD journey. Thanks! The holidays are fast approaching, and I thought it would be fun to put together a gift guide for the SCD cook! These are items I highly recommend to make your (or your loved one's) SCD journey a little easier and more enjoyable. I think that the newest and most exciting item out is the Luvele SCD 24 hour yogurt maker. I am so happy with this machine! There has never been a yogurt maker designed specifically for the SCD until now. It is very well thought out, and makes excellent yogurt. No more fiddling with dimmer switches (for those of you who have been doing that), because there are three steady temperatures to choose from. No more wondering if the yogurt is done, because there is a 24 hour setting! A dial on the lid can be used to mark which day of the month you made it, and it has a vacuum sealing lid. This would be a novel gift for any SCDer! You can read more about it from another blog post here. My mom and I put together a new Holiday Bundle of some of our downloadable publications for you! This is a great deal. Be totally ready for Christmas and beyond with the 85 recipes in our November/December I Want to THRIVE magazine, the 29 recipes in our Festive Holiday Recipes! booklet, and Weeks 12 and 20 of our Easy Weekly Menus! They will be an inspiration and a help for the holidays! It's a true bargain at $5.04. Use the code CHRISTMAS! (Be sure to use all caps with an exclamation point.) My sister-in-law showed me some of what her Vitamix blender can do over Thanksgiving, and I am super impressed! It can make soup (including heating it up), smoothies from just fruit and vegetables with no extra liquid, ice creams, and more! She made me a Vitamix recipe smoothie that was amazing. I see big possibilities with a Vitamix for someone on the SCD. (I chose one of the Vitamix blenders on Amazon to link to here, but there are many options so if you search on Amazon you can find the one that works best for you along with other containers, etc.) Wellbee's makes and sells wonderful SCD food! I love to buy their products during especially busy times in my life, for my birthday, or when I'm traveling to give myself a little more of a vacation. A few of my favorite Wellbee's products are Caramel Creme (tastes like a candy bar!), Honey Delights lemon flavored candy (great for staying awake on road trips ;-)), applesauce, and ketchup (way easier than making my own). A gift card would be a great gift too! I got one several years ago, and it was really fun to choose my favorite products. There's a newer company also selling great SCD food! Have you heard about Liberated Specialty Foods yet?? In addition to shipping SCD food, they also sell in some stores. Their SCD pizza crusts are available in the frozen foods section at many Sprout's locations, as well as other yummy foods available in other stores, including certain Whole Foods. (Find their locations here.) I loved finding their Cashew Crème bread at Earth Fare in Indiana while on vacation this month, as well as their Coconut Bread and Waffles. In fact, their Cashew Crème bread helped get me through an unexpected extra night on the road due to a blizzard in Kansas! A shipment of Liberated Specialty Foods, a purchase of their frozen breads, or a gift card would make a wonderful gift! My Mom created a beautiful cookbook a few years ago. "The Flavor First Cookbook" is truly a labor of love, filled with delicious recipes, tips, and beautiful photographs. Many people have said they love it, and I know I enjoy using it a lot! One of the great things about it is that it is available through Amazon and should be shipped to you in a couple of days if you are a Prime member! You can read more about it here. A waffle maker with a temperature control would be very handy for SCD recipes that use nut flour, eggs, and honey. All of these ingredients burn easily, so cooking them on a low heat setting is important. I love to make waffles with my husband's popular Jim's Fluffy Pancakes recipe! Another of my favorite cookbooks is "Recipes for the Specific Carbohydrate Diet" by Raman Prasad. It is filled with creative, yummy recipes inspired by recipes from around world. In addition to flavorful recipes, it contains tips, ideas, as well as Raman's personal experience with the SCD and his friendship with Elaine Gottschall. Well, I could go on! But I'll wrap this up here. :) I hope your have a wonderful Christmas and holiday season!
Take care, ~ Erin
